As we speak, the Chair of NBCPD, Shelley Petit, is attending what is her 18th day of sitting through official testimonies regarding NB Power’s request for imposing rate hikes on its New Brunswick customers. When we say “sitting through” we don’t necessarily mean it’s a painful task, but let’s face it, this is no easy task. Shelley is there speaking on behalf of not only our members, but also on behalf of other low-income individuals. Also along for this ride is Randy Hatfield from Saint John Human Development Council. These two have been referred to as a “tag team” in the media, both representing groups of people who will be disproportionately impacted by a rate increase from NB Power.
Shelley will be giving her closing speech this afternoon, her “closing argument”, if you will. We wish her the best of luck as she speaks out on our behalf once again, in what might be one of NBCPD’s most impactful presence to date. More on what Shelley and NBCPD is requesting soon.
