Federal money for Pharmacare is being “left on the table” in New Brunswick! Health Minister, Dr. John Dornon, says pharmacare would cost ‘more than we have’ as the drug coverage deal stalls and he says “New Brunswickers are relatively well covered”.
However, of the New Brunswickers surveyed in a 2024 Environics poll :
• 24 % said they are not filling/renewing a prescription, or they are making it last longer (e.g., skipping doses, splitting pills) due to cost – the highest in Canada.
• 27 % said they hesitated about quitting/changing jobs because of worries about losing prescription drug coverage – the highest in Canada.
Pharmacare would solve so many problems.
The New Brunswick Coalition of Persons with Disabilities, along with 43 other organizations representing artists, cultural societies, seniors, people with disabilities, people living in poverty, private and public sector workers from various workplaces, academics, and activists have joined forces in an open letter calling on our provincial elected officials to negotiate a drug insurance agreement with the federal government.
NBCPD is asking members to join this movement by sending the letter below in an email to your MLA. As this is a PDF document, you will not be able to edit the letter to re-save with your name. We recommend that you print it, scribble you signature at the bottom and scan it and include in an email. Alternatively, you can just include it in an email and write in the body of the email “I support this effort” and type in your name. It only matters that you make yourself heard.
