AGM 2025 NBCPD Annual General Meeting – January 26th

If advocating for the rights of people with disabilities – ALL types of disabilities – means a lot to you, we want you to join us. Whether your talents lie in public speaking, graphics, administrative tasks (or whatever else you can think of), or if you have one hour to volunteer or ten or more – we sure could use you here.

Join us at the AGM anyway and let us know what you would like to do as a volunteer. Whether there is a position that fits you or not – one thing is for sure – there is room for you among us.

Positions

In these volunteer leadership roles, the person will have many responsibilities that are necessary for NBCPD to run efficiently. All are expected to attend Board Meetings.

First and foremost, all members are defenders of disability rights and issues, and advocate in a tactful but deliberate manner, while keeping in line with the NBCPD Code of Conduct.

Chair

• Facilitating meetings with executive board members to assess goals, direction, plans, strategies, and compliance. • Working alongside the Comm-Secretary and/ or the Vice-Chair to develop agendas for coalition meetings. • Overseeing the Board, Executive, and some of the volunteers that might be temporarily or permanently assigned to a position within the Coalition. • Keeping the Coalition on track to meet priorities, project goals and objectives. • In conjunction with the Comm-Secretary, develops and maintains positive community relations with Coalition members, the media, government officials (municipal, provincial, and federal) and businesses. • Participates in the recruitment of new Coalition Board members. • Working alongside the Comm-Secretary, grants interviews to the media as required. • Helping to resolve conflicts within the Coalition, fairly, sensitively, and confidentially by following the code of conduct and promoting collaboration and communication between Board members. • Remaining open to diverse points of view and differences of opinion. • will need to be able to communicate in both written and oral format? Being bilingual is not required-but would be beneficial. Note: From January to April, add about 2 hrs, 3 times per week to supervise St-Thomas University student- as required.

Vice-Chair

• If the person who holds the position of Chair becomes unavailable for any reason, the VC will be the back-up for meetings and other Chair tasks • Working alongside the Comm-Secretary and the Chair to develop agendas for coalition meetings. • Participates in the recruitment of new Coalition members alongside the Chair. • May represent the Coalition before the media (as requested, in the absence of the Chair and / or the Comm-Secretary • Keeps the Coalition on track to meet priorities, project goals and objectives by establishing strategies. • Works with new volunteers. • When required, will keep Chair informed on the progress of project teams.

Communications-Secretary

• Developing strategic ways to elevate and promote the NBCPD image with the public, government officials and the media. • Requesting advocacy actions by the members through social media. • Drafting, editing and publishing webpage, blog posts, newsletters, social media content, one-pagers (“flyers”), press materials, presentations and any written, digital or audio materials (i.e. press releases, public service announcements, video montages). • Revising and approving all media-related NBCPD content prepared by members. • Maintaining both French and English media lists • Cultivating relationships with key media outlets. • Tracking and analyzing media hits online. • Have a knowledge of Google, Office and certain graphic software such as Canva.

Finance

• Overseeing and presenting budgets to the Chair. • Maintaining the bank account; both online and in person. • Liaising with designated Board members about financial matters. • Ensure that record-keeping of any financial information (electronically or hard copy). • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

Membership

• Inputting new membership information into the G-Drive spreadsheet.

• Sending “Membership Package” to all new members in a timely manner. • Creating a sponsorship program for corporate members or public figures, reaching out to businesses, seeking out sponsors for “swag” for our members. • Coordinating yearly Membership Recruitment Campaign. • Using social media to find new members.

Membership Engagement

• Responsible for Facebook group page “Members & Friends of NBCPD”, posting to the page to engage community. • Approving or rejecting membership requests on the Facebook group account (shared task) • Celebrating members on diverse events, achievements, and milestones. • Occasionally might be asked to help Comm/Secretary.

Priority Reps / Regional Reps

• There will be one rep assigned per priority, as follows: • Transportation • Mental Health • Housing • Recreation / Well-Being • Regional reps – One in Northern NB, one in Southern NB

As a Priority Rep on the Board, the member will be responsible of the following:

• Collecting information on areas of priority. • Postings on internal page & sharing with Comm-Secretary for website.
